The Karatekas of IKA Karate Academy, Mysuru and Kali Warriors Academy, Karnataka, under Pekiti Tirsia Kali India, have bagged various medals in the World Online Karate Championship-2022 organised by Dynamic Shotokan Karate Do Association, World Union of Martial Arts Federations, World Karate Alliance and Evolution of Karate between Jan. 20 and Jan. 25, 2022.

 Gitanjali Rao, a child prodigy and inventor, said the cause of her success was her community, a supportive environment as well as the focus on problem-based learning in schools.

Speaking at the Diaspora Diplomacy speaker series, organised by the US Mission in India, the 16-year-old talked about her experiences, her thought processes as well as her upcoming inventions. Gitanjali, an Indian-origin student from the US, is an accomplished inventor, having come to the forefront with Tethys, a device that detects lead levels in water and transmits the information over Bluetooth.

* City team enters Wharton Investment Competition semi-finals

Five Bengaluru students have entered the semi-finals of the Wharton Global High School Investment Competition. The team, ‘Team Comrades’ was one of the 50 teams to reach the semi-finals, out of 1,300 teams comprising 7,000 students across 64 countries.

Udupi student pips four finalists for Voice of the Year prize

Samanvi, a second year B. A. student from Udupi, was on Friday awarded The Hindu & SaReGaMa M.S. Subbulakshmi Award, 2021, Voice of the Year, presented by Parry’s Amrit Brown Sugar at the Grand Finale held at The Music Academy here.

“I plan to pursue music as a career,” said the youngster who has been undergoing training with Guru V. Aravinda Hebbar in Gurukulavasam and under Chitravina N. Ravikiran.

Ms. Samanvi, who has been learning and performing along with her long-time friend Archana, will get to record an album with SaReGaMa.

The award was presented by Aruna Sairam, renowned Carnatic vocalist and guru, and Navaneeth L.V., CEO, The Hindu Group.

* Athletic Championship: Two meet records set on Day 2

Two new meet records were created on the second day of the 81st All India Inter-University Athletic Championship 2022 being organised at Swaraj Maidan in Moodbidri on Wednesday. 

Akshdeep Singh of Punjabi University, Patiala, created a new record in the 20 km race walk clocking 1:26:09.08 sec. breaking the previous record (1:26:39.78) of Juned K T of Mangalore University, set in 2020.

In the same event, Paramjeet Singh and Hardeep of Mangalore University bettered the record clocking 1:26:39.15 and 1:27:13.89 respectively

*City Fighters Excel In Kickboxing

Students of IKA Karate Academy and Martial Arts, Mysuru, participated in Wako India National Kickboxing Championship which was organised by Wako India Kickboxing Federation between Dec. 21 to 25 in Pune.

Four (2 female and 2 male) of them have bagged, 2 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals respectively.

* Medal-Winners In Muaythai National Championship

Nine Muaythai fighters (7 male and 2 female) of the Smite Academy of Martial Arts participated in the 22nd MTI Muaythai National Championship under the aegis of Mysore Muaythai Trust (MDMT) and Mysore Combat Sports Association (MCSA).

The event was held at Sheen Sports Alliance, Bengaluru, between Dec. 16 and 19.

The team bagged 4 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals. 200 athletes from various States and UT participated in the event that was hosted by Muaythai Association of Karnataka (MAK) and sanctioned by MTI.

* Wins Medals In National Roller Skating Championship

City roller skater K.S. Prathiksha has secured three gold medals (500m track race, 500m road race, 3000m relay) and 1 silver medal (1000m track race) in the 14 years age category at the 59th National Roller Skating Championship conducted by Skating Federation of India at New Delhi from Dec. 11 to 20.

She is coached by coach K. Shrikanth Rao of Rao’s Roller Skating Club in Mysuru and is a student of St.Joseph’s Central School, Vijayanagar.

Prathiksha is the daughter of K. Shankar and Nirmala Shankar, residents of Vijayanagar 2nd Stage.
