KSR Bengaluru is all set to become the first railway station in the state to market the famed Channapatna toys. A stall to sell them will be rolled out from Friday (March 25) on a pilot basis and it will be trialed for a fortnight.
Channapatna toys are special wooden toys and dolls manufactured in Channapatna town in Ramanagara district of Karnataka and have the Geographical Indicator (GI) tag.

Shashwat Rao of Karnataka won the Snow Marathon with a timing of 4:41:07, here on Saturday.
In the women’s category, local girl Dolma Tenzin was the fastest and she completed her race in five hours and five minutes, thirty seconds.
Snow Marathon Lahaul, conceptualised by Event Founder Guarav Schimar and organised by Reach India and supported by the District Administration of Lahaul and Spiti district (Himachal Pradesh) saw the participation of over 100 sportsmen and women.
“This was the first time that a snow marathon was organised in the country.
Till now, snow marathons were conducted in countries of the cold icy regions such as the polar circles, Antarctica, Russia and northern Europe.
With Snow Marathon Lahaul, India organised at an elevation of above 10,000 feet, it now holds the distinction of organising a snow marathon at the highest altitude,” said Gaurav.
In the 21 kilometres – Half Marathon category, Rohan stood first in the men’s section with two hours 53 minutes while amongst the women, the title went to Diksha, who clocked two hours 59 minutes.
The ten-kilometre run was won by Daulat Ram who took one hour and four minutes while Hemlata placed first in her category who covered the distance in one hour and twenty minutes.
Navneet emerged as winner in the five-kilometer category while Shrishti grabbed the title in women’s category.
The brand ambassador of the marathon – Kieren D’Souza also graced the occasion and ran 10 kms along with the participants.

The first Metro train in Bengaluru with its exterior wrapped completely in vinyl was inaugurated on Friday from Platform 2 of the Kempegowda Metro station towards Kengeri on its Purple Line.
This initiative by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to commemorate 75 years of Independence was flagged off by its Managing Director Anjum Parwez at 10.15 am.

The City of Palaces and Museums has got one more museum — a Tribal Museum — adding a new feather on its cap.
The Karnataka State Tribal Research Institute (KSTRI) has set up Karnataka’s first Tribal Museum at Kergalli and the facility will be inaugurated the Minister of Tribal Welfare and Transport B. Sriramulu. District Minister S.T. Somashekar and other dignitaries will be present.

The M Visvesvaraya railway terminal in Bengaluru is ready for commissioning as the country’s third ‘world-class’ railway station in the near future. The Sacred Ensembles of the Hoysala — the famed Hoysala temples of Belur, Halebid and Somananthpura in the State — has been finalised as India’s nomination for consideration as World Heritage for 2022-23. These protected monuments are on UNESCO’s tentative list since April 15, 2014, a PIB release on Monday said.
As part of the first step, the dossier to the World Heritage Centre, which will take up technical scrutiny, was submitted by Vishal V. Sharma, Permanent Representative of India to UNESCO, to UNESCO Director of World Heritage Lazare Eloundou on Monday.
“India is proud to nominate the Sacred Ensembles of the Hoysalas for UNESCO’s World Heritage List! Art Historians recognise the exceptional sculptural artistry of the ensembles to be among the masterpieces of Asian art,” Mr. Sharma tweeted.
