India’s Rohan Bopanna and Ramkumar Ramanathan won their second ATP World Tour title together after pipping the top seeded Australian pair of Luke Saville and John-Patrick Smith in the final of the Tata Open Maharashtra, on Sunday
* Bopanna-Ramkumar win Adelaide doubles title
The unseeded pair of Rohan Bopanna and Ramkumar Ramanathan beat the top seeds, Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo 7-6(6), 6-1 in the doubles final of the $521,000 ATP tennis tournament here on Sunday.
It was the first professional tournament together as a pair for Bopanna and Ramkumar, who had partnered each other in the last Davis Cup tie against Finland.
In five matches, the Indian pair dropped one set and did not drop even one service game, to collect the winner’s share of 250 ATP points and $18,700.
* City Fighters Win Medals At National Kickboxing Championships
Fighters of Elite Academy, Mysuru, have excelled in the WAKO National Kickboxing Championships-2021 organised by Amateur Sports Kickboxing Association, Maharashtra, at Balewadi, Pune, in September.
Syed Abubakar clinched Gold medals in the Seniors Category while M. Satyanand bagged Gold and Silver Medal in the Sub-Junior category.
Ahmed, Mohammed Adnaan, Mohamed Abaan and Mohamed Eshan won Gold Medal and Afreed Khan won Gold and Silver Medals in the Junior Category. Manav D. Sangwan won Gold Medal in Youngest Cadets.
All the fighters are trained by Mohamed Farjath Iyaz, Chief Instructor and Founder of Elite Academy.
* Athletic Championship: Two meet records set on Day 2
Two new meet records were created on the second day of the 81st All India Inter-University Athletic Championship 2022 being organised at Swaraj Maidan in Moodbidri on Wednesday.
Akshdeep Singh of Punjabi University, Patiala, created a new record in the 20 km race walk clocking 1:26:09.08 sec. breaking the previous record (1:26:39.78) of Juned K T of Mangalore University, set in 2020.
In the same event, Paramjeet Singh and Hardeep of Mangalore University bettered the record clocking 1:26:39.15 and 1:27:13.89 respectively
*City Fighters Excel In Kickboxing
Students of IKA Karate Academy and Martial Arts, Mysuru, participated in Wako India National Kickboxing Championship which was organised by Wako India Kickboxing Federation between Dec. 21 to 25 in Pune.
Four (2 female and 2 male) of them have bagged, 2 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals respectively.
* Medal-Winners In Muaythai National Championship
Nine Muaythai fighters (7 male and 2 female) of the Smite Academy of Martial Arts participated in the 22nd MTI Muaythai National Championship under the aegis of Mysore Muaythai Trust (MDMT) and Mysore Combat Sports Association (MCSA).
The event was held at Sheen Sports Alliance, Bengaluru, between Dec. 16 and 19.
The team bagged 4 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals. 200 athletes from various States and UT participated in the event that was hosted by Muaythai Association of Karnataka (MAK) and sanctioned by MTI.
* Wins Medals In National Roller Skating Championship
City roller skater K.S. Prathiksha has secured three gold medals (500m track race, 500m road race, 3000m relay) and 1 silver medal (1000m track race) in the 14 years age category at the 59th National Roller Skating Championship conducted by Skating Federation of India at New Delhi from Dec. 11 to 20.
She is coached by coach K. Shrikanth Rao of Rao’s Roller Skating Club in Mysuru and is a student of St.Joseph’s Central School, Vijayanagar.
Prathiksha is the daughter of K. Shankar and Nirmala Shankar, residents of Vijayanagar 2nd Stage.
