* District Police Sports Meet Concludes: Mysuru District Armed Reserve Police Team Bags Overall Trophy

The three-day sports meet for District Police, organised by Mysuru District Police at the District Armed Reserve (DAR) Police Parade Grounds at Jyothinagar here, concluded yesterday evening.

The District Armed Reserve Police team, which had garnered most points by winning prizes in various sports events, bagged the overall team championship trophy. While Raghunandan of DAR bagged the individual award in the men’s category, K. Ashwini of Bannur Police Station bagged the award in the women’s category.

* City MMA Fighters Excel

Fourteen Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighters of the Academy of Martial Science participated in the 6th Bangalore Open MMA Championships held in Whitefield, Bengaluru, between Dec. 16 and 19.

Nine (4 female and 5 male) out of them have bagged 2 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze medals respectively. Seen in the picture are (standing from left) Sharun Divakar, P. Yashas, Ashwin Mahendran, R. A total of 213 MMA athletes from 25 States participated in the event that was hosted by Association of Mixed Martial Arts Karnataka (AMMAK) and sanctioned by MMA India.

The medallists will be representing State at the National Championships that will be held in Chhattisgarh in February 2022.

* Bags Gold In Wrestling

H.A. Akhilesh, an MCA student at the city’s Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) Post-Graduate Centre, has bagged a Gold medal  at the State-level  VTU Inter-collegiate wrestling contest  held at Haliyal in Uttara Kannada district recently.

He got the medal for winning  four bouts (97 Kg category) in the Round Robin league of the tournament, according to a press release.

India’s leading amateur female golfer, 15-year-old Bengalurean Avani Prashanth, has been selected for the Global Child Prodigy Award 2022.

* World Senior Badminton Tournament At Spain: Government School Maths Teacher Wins Bronze Medal

Sunil Gladson Varadaraj, who works as an Assistant Teacher at Hosamalangi Government High School in Kollegal taluk of Chamarajanagar, is the one who had excelled at track & field events during school days and then was part of State Kho Kho team before switching to shuttle badminton.

Now, adding feather to his cap is the Bronze Medal he won at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Senior Badminton Championship held at Carolina Marin Stadium in Huelva of Spain between Nov. 28 and Dec. 4, 2021.

* Mysuru Golfer Aryan Roopa Anand Retains All-India Amateur Title

Mysuru boy Aryan Roopa Anand retained his IGU All-India Amateur Golf Championship title defeating Yuvaraj Singh, at the Poona Golf Course in Pune.

After moving out of Mysuru and shifting to Bengaluru, he started playing at KGA, Bengaluru. 

* Winners Of National-Level Karate Championship

The Karatekas of IKA Karate Academy, Mysuru and Kali Warriors Academy, Karnataka, under Pekiti Tirsia Kali India in city, have bagged various prizes in the 3rd National-level Karate Championship organised by Shotokan Karate Do Sports Association and Sensei Durganada on Nov. 27 and Nov. 28 in Hubballi.
