INDIA RECORDS: KARNATAKA RECORDS: BUSINESS & ECONOMY : Karnataka Ranked No. 1 in the Country in Foreign Direct Invesment (FDI) inflows

Minister of Large & Medium Industries, Murugesh Nirani said the state is ranked number 1 in the country in attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows.

Addressing a press meet at the TMA Pai convention hall, Nirani said, “Various companies are flocking to Karnataka with mega projects. For the past one year, Karnataka has been at the top position in attracting FDIs. Nearly, 42% of FDI into the country is from Karnataka. In the IT-BT sector, Karnataka is in the number one position. Karnataka is the silicon valley of India.”

For the first time in the country, he said Karnataka has introduced a policy for semiconductor companies. Under this, he said we have cleared three projects which would come in three locations. One project is coming up in Mysuru involving an investment of Rs 22,500 crore, he said.

He also said that the government is giving importance to EV vehicles and Ethanol fuel extracted from different raw materials. “In 2020-21, we have produced 12% ethanol in the country. In 2022-23, we would like to touch 20%. The Centre is providing an interest subsidy of up to 6%.

The Union government is supporting in increasing the GDP of the country. It is providing financial assistance for the various sectors for instance Bulk Drug Park. This would come up in three places in the country. Already, we have reserved 3000 hectares of land in Kadechur, Raichur. Almost 80 drug industries are all set to invest in this place. The Union government will release Rs 1000 crore for the project,” he said.

KARNATAKA: Queen Abbakka Made Special Contribution to Country’s History. Rani Abbakka Tulu Research Centre Inaugrated.

“Rani Abbakka has made a special contribution to the history of the country. The government should introduce her to the entire nation,” said retired Supreme Court justice N Santhosh Hegde.

He was speaking after unveiling the Rani Abbakka Tulu research centre and Rani Abbakka statue at Tulu Baduku museum, Sanchayagiri, B C Road here. “The efforts of Tukaram Poojary to establish the centre to introduce Rani Abbakka to the world is worth commending,” he said.

KARNATAKA RECORDS: HEALTH & MEDICAL: Shivamogga Nurse Gangamma P L, Wins Florence Nightingale Award

Gangamma P L was one among a dozen nurses who were felicitated by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar during the event.

A nurse from government-run McGann Teaching Hospital in Shivamogga was conferred Florence Nightingale Award in the Best Nurse category on the occasion of International Nurses Day on Thursday.

During her tenure at the General Hospital in Bhadravathi, between 1986 and 1990, Gangamma assisted in 2,500 family planning cases, both tubectomy and laparoscopic operations.

KARNATAKA RECORDS: EDUCATION: Alumni Event ‘Guruvandana-2022’ at Kudremukh Finds Place in International Book of Records

The ‘Guruvandana-2022’, which witnessed the registration of 620 alumni, and 70 teachers who had served at four schools including the Government PU college, organised in Kudremukh in Mudigere taluk in the district, found a place in the International Book of Records.

INDIA RECORDS: PATENT : KARNATAKA RECORDS: FOOD & BEVERAGES : National Institute of Technology, Surathkal (NITK) Faculty gets Patent for Cashew Apple Wine

The faculty of NITK, Surathkal has received a patent for producing wine using cashew apple and raisins.

The technology is developed by Dr Prasanna Belur Devarabhatta, associate professor in the department of chemical engineering. The patent is titled ‘A process for production of an alcoholic beverage from cashew apple and raisins and the alcoholic beverage produced thereof.”

The NITK had filed an application for the patent in 2012 and received it on May 4, 2022.

Now, NITK is looking forward to transferring the technology (licensing) to the interested entrepreneurs/companies. Further, the NITK will also provide required technical support to the licensee during the implementation of the said technology.

INDIA RECORDS: KARNATAKA RECORDS: CFTRI brings out Seven New Technologies

Licences for some of the technologies have been taken by entrepreneurs

CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) on Wednesday announced the new technologies it has developed in the last one year, on the occasion of the National Technology Day that was observed here.

Also, the CFTRI gave licences to entrepreneurs for commercialising some of its technologies, thanks to the initiatives of the Technology Transfer and Business Development Department. Certificates and mementoes were presented to the licensee at the National Technology Day event for having used the technologies, by former Vice-Chancellor K. Chidananda Gowda who was the chief guest.

In total, seven new technologies, including gluten-free biscuits, gluten-free cookie cake, buckwheat noodles and pasta, multigrain nutri cookies, chikki with moringa, coffee brew mix, and high performance advanced oxidation process for STPs, greywater, industrial wastewaters (food and non-food), were developed by the R and D teams.

Making big splashes in the pool, 14-year-old Ridhima Veerendra Kumar had a golden run at the South Africa National Swimming Championships 2022 where the youngster finished on top of the podium in three events and made heads turn.

The lanky teenager from Bengaluru was on a mission of her own as she swept gold in the 100m backstrokes, 200m backstroke, and the 800m freestyle events – but none of these exploits seems to put Ridhima on cloud nine, she rather remains calm and composed, focussed on the future instead.

INDIA RECORDS : KARNATAKA RECORDS: Centre Recognises Karnataka’s Progress in Malaria Eradication Awards ‘Certificate of Appreciation’

The state health department has progressed from Category 2 to Category 1 status between 2015 and 2021.

The Union Health Department has awarded the State Department of Health and Family Welfare with a certificate of appreciation, in recognition of its performance towards malaria eradication. The state health department has progressed from Category 2 to Category 1 status between 2015 and 2021.

According to Dr Ramesh K Kaulgud, Joint Director-NVBDCP, Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Services, there were 7,381 cases of malaria in 2017, 5,289 in 2018, 3,499 in 2019, 1,701 in 2020 and 913 in 2021.

Speaking about the achievement, Dr Ramesh said malaria prevention and control activities are implemented across the state as per the directives of National Centre for Vector Borne Disease Control, Government of India.

The surveillance parameters as defined by the programme guidelines have been achieved, facilitating the state to progress towards the set goal of complete eradication.

KARNATAKA RECORDS: Karnataka’s First Floating Bridge in Malpe Beach, Udupi

While on the bridge, a visitor can feel the sea wave movement and can enjoy his walk. It will be like riding on the waves.

The State’s first floating bridge will be inaugurated on Malpe Beach in Udupi on Friday.

According to Sudesh Shetty, lease holder, Malpe Beach, the bridge will be inaugurated in the presence of Udupi MLA K. Raghupati Bhat and Deputy Commissioner M. Kurma Rao.

The bridge will be an added attraction to increase tourist footfall in Udupi. The bridge, set up at a cost of ₹80 lakh invested by three local entrepreneurs, is 100 m long.

Conservation biologist Kamal Bawa has been elected to the U.S. National Academy of Sciences. Kamal Bawa is president of the Bengaluru-based Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and Environment (ATREE) as well as an elected fellow of the Royal Society (London) and the American Philosophical Society.

“The election is a reaffirmation of our important work on the ecology, conservation, and management of tropical forests that are declining all over the world but are critical to humanity’s well-being,” said Dr. Bawa.

A few years ago, Dr. Bawa brought together scientists from India’s leading institutions to develop the National Mission on Biodiversity and Human Wellbeing under the banner of the Biodiversity Collaborative.

The effort was supported by the office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, and is currently funded by the Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies.
