WORLD RECORDS: Tallest Statue of Panchamukhi Anjaneya Swamy in Tumakuru District

Chief  Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday said that there will be good times ahead for Karnataka as he unveiled the 161-ft tall Panchamukhi Anjaneya Swamy statue, touted to be the world’s tallest, installed by Basaveshwara Mutt at Bidanagere in Kunigal taluk of Tumakuru district.

“Panchamukhi  Anjaneya is a special form of Hanuman, which is mentioned in the Ramayana.  

Hanuman took this form for the welfare of the world. It is the divine wish of Hanuman to have his 161-ft tall statue installed in Karnataka.  

The sculptors have done a wonderful job,” Bommai added.

HEALTH CARE: Life-Time Achievement Award Conferred on Dr. S.N. Mothi for Contribution to the field of HIV/AIDS

Dr. S.N. Mothi, Founder-Trustee, and Chairman, Asha Kirana Charitable Trust, Mysuru, was conferred the ‘Life-Time Achievement Award’ by AIDS Society of India at the 13th National Conference of ASICON held at Hyderabad from Apr.3 to 5 for his outstanding contribution to the field of  HIV/AIDS.

Dr. Mothi received the award from Dr. Marjolein Jacobs from UNAIDS, in the presence of Dr.  I.S. Gilada, President, AIDS Society of India .

GRAMMY AWARDS: Music Composer Ricky Kej Wins a Second Grammy Award with his Album ‘Divine Tides’

The US-born musician shared the award with Stewart Copeland, the drummer of the iconic British rock band The Police, who collaborated with Kej on the album.

 Music composer Ricky Kej, based out of Bengaluru, has won his second Grammy in the best new album category for ‘Divine Tides’.

“So grateful to have won the Grammy Award for our album ‘Divine Tides’. Absolutely love this living-legend standing next to me – Stewart Copeland. Love all of you too!

This is my 2nd Grammy Award and Stewart’s 6th,” he wrote alongside a picture with Copeland.

In 2015, Kej took home a Grammy in the best new age album category for ‘Winds of Samsara’.

Bengaluru based Psychiatrist Dr Sachin Nagendrappa Wins “Global Schizophrenia Award 2022′ 

Dr Sachin Nagendrappa, assistant professor of psychiatry, St Johns Medical College, was awarded the Global Schizophrenia award 2022.

His research began during his MD with the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS).

“My research focuses on the clinical and biological aspects of treatment-resistant schizophrenia and postpartum psychosis,” he says. Sachin has collaborated with international and national research projects funded by UNICEF and ETH Switzerland.

First Time in India for an Institute to have Eponymous Insect Genus. New Genus of Parasitoid Wasp dedicated to Bengaluru’s ATREE

ATREE – Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment.

A new genus of Braconid wasp has been named ‘Atree’, after the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE), a leading research institution and environmental think tank based in Bengaluru.

This is said to be the first time in India that an institute has an eponymous insect genus.

The development comes with the discovery of a new species of wasp, Atree rajathae and two other already known species.

The newly described species is a parasitoid wasp.

An ATREE statement explained that parasitoids are the most important natural enemies of other insects, and humans exploit this behaviour for the biological control of crop pests.

Karnataka’s Shashwat Rao Wins Snow Marathon in Lahaul, Himachal Pradesh. First Ever Snow Marathon Organised in India : March 2022

Shashwat Rao of Karnataka won the Snow Marathon with a timing of 4:41:07, here on Saturday.

In the women’s category, local girl Dolma Tenzin was the fastest and she completed her race in five hours and five minutes, thirty seconds.

Snow Marathon Lahaul, conceptualised by Event Founder Guarav Schimar and organised by Reach India and supported by the District Administration of Lahaul and Spiti district (Himachal Pradesh) saw the participation of over 100 sportsmen and women.

“This was the first time that a snow marathon was organised in the country.

Till now, snow marathons were conducted in countries of the cold icy regions such as the polar circles, Antarctica, Russia and northern Europe.

With Snow Marathon Lahaul, India organised at an elevation of above 10,000 feet, it now holds the distinction of organising a snow marathon at the highest altitude,” said Gaurav.

In the 21 kilometres – Half Marathon category, Rohan stood first in the men’s section with two hours 53 minutes while amongst the women, the title went to Diksha, who clocked two hours 59 minutes.

The ten-kilometre run was won by Daulat Ram who took one hour and four minutes while Hemlata placed first in her category who covered the distance in one hour and twenty minutes.

Navneet emerged as winner in the five-kilometer category while Shrishti grabbed the title in women’s category.

The brand ambassador of the marathon – Kieren D’Souza also graced the occasion and ran 10 kms along with the participants.

Prof CNR Rao Conferred Italian Govt’s Prestigious ‘Energy Frontiers 2020 Award’ by CM . First Recipient in Asia.

Eminent scientist and Bharat Ratna Awardee Prof CNR Rao was conferred the Energy Frontiers 2020 award by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

The Italy Government’s prestigious Energy Frontiers Award is considered the Nobel prize for the Energy Sector and Prof Rao is the first recipient of the award from entire Asia.

Higher Education, Science and Technology Minister Dr CN Ashwath Narayan, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advance Scientific Research Chairman Prof GU Kulkarni, noted scientist Dr Indumati Rao and other dignitaries were present.

* 27 films win awards at BIFFes

The awards were presented for films released in 2020 and 2021

The 13th edition of the Bengaluru International Film Festival (BiFFes) drew to a close on Thursday with 27 films winning awards in three categories – Asian, Kannada and Indian. The awards were presented for films released for two years, 2020 and 2021, as the festival was not held last year due to the pandemic. Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot presided over the event and presented the awards.

The Indian Space Research Organisation offers its achievements in a language that connects, just in time for National Science Day, with DIY rocket models, Mangalyaan jigsaw puzzles, T shirts and more

“What we do is rocket science,” proclaims a tee-shirt. Created by Indic Inspirations for the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), the tee -shirt is a part of its Vyom collection. Most of the products, which include jigsaw puzzles based on Mangalyaan, rocket collectible matchboxes, mySpace PSLV notebooks and fridge magnets, come with a storyline.

“This collection is about ISRO’s achievements in space science and technology. We had to create a line that would interest a child and adults alike,” says Yogesh Dandekar, architect and chief product designer of Indic Inspirations. “India is doing a lot of work in space technology and people should know about this.” He adds that minute details on the models build up curiosity.

Innovation Lab Inaugrated at PDA Engineering College (Kalaburagi) in Collaboration with Danish Enterprises

H.E. Freddy Svane, Ambassador of Denmark inaugurated an innovation lab established at the college as part of a collaboration with Danish companies and institutes.

After inaugurating the innovation lab, which has been set up to facilitate and develop innovations in the fields of Internet of Things, green energy, climate change mitigation, agricultural applications and electric vehicle systems, among others, Mr. Svane stressed the need for the development of in-house skilling to face global challenges such as global warming.
