Rev Ferdinand Kittel Foundation is giving the ‘Rev Kittel Awards’ to 10 eminent people who have contributed towards Kannada and Karnataka in various fields for the year
2021-2022.

The award ceremony will be held on Saturday, November 26 at 3.30 pm, at Gandhi Bhavan, Kumara Park East, Bengaluru.

KARNATAKA: BUSINESS & ECONOMY: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY / EXCELLENCE: Infosys, Intel Win ‘Karnataka IT Rathna Awards’ & Host of others Won the ‘IT Pride of Karnataka Awards’ at Bengaluru Tech Summit-2022

Infosys and Intel bagged the Karnataka IT Rathna awards at the 25th edition of the Bengaluru Tech Summit (BTS) 2022 held in Bengaluru, informed a press release.

The awards which were given away at the meet have been instituted by the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) and are given to companies that have clocked more than ₹10,000 crore in exports.

Minister for IT-BT, Science & Technology Dr C N Aswath Narayan also honoured companies such as TCS, Bosch, Mindtree, and 21 others with the award ‘IT Pride of Karnataka’ for clocking ₹2,000 crore to ₹10,000 crore in exports.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said “Karnataka is clocking exports worth ₹1 lakh crore annually and expressed hope that it would rise to ₹1.5 lakh crore in the next three years and also achieve $1 trillion in the digital economy space.”

However, the Minister expressed anxiousness over the 40% shortage of finances in the current account despite a high turnover in exports from the state. He urged the IT captains to raise exports and reduce imports to maintain a good balance of trade. He also assured the industry that the government will continue to extend its support.

Aravind Kumar and Shailendra Tyagi of STPI, IT Vision group chairman Kris Gopalakrishnan, Additional chief secretary of IT-BT department E V Ramana Reddy, and director Meena Nagaraj were also present at the vent.

KARNATAKA: SOCIAL/ CHILDRENs BRAVERY: Five Children Awarded the ‘Hoysala and Keladi Chennamma Bravery Awards’ on Children’s Day by the Department of Women and Child Development

Five children were awarded for their bravery by the Department of Women and Child Development, on the occasion of Children’s Day, at Bal Bhavan.

All the five hail from rural backgrounds, and were conferred the Hoysala and Keladi Chennamma Bravery Awards for displaying various acts of bravery over the last year.

The awards are bestowed by the department on children who have shown commitment towards the rescue of others in dangerous circumstances. The four girls and one boy were honoured at the Children’s Day State Awards Ceremony on Monday.

On November 6, 2021, Namrata, from Madikeri, had saved a senior citizen from drowning in a lake on her way home from school.

Prarthana, from Shivamogga, had saved her brother’s life after he was electrocuted by a TV switch board at their home on November 7, 2021.

Koushalya Hegade, from Siddapura, saved her father following an accident. After their car overturned, she made her way to a nearby village to call for help, as her father had suffered severe injury.

Keerthi Vivek, from Davanagere, also endured a similar ordeal, when his family car fell into a trench, jamming all its doors.

He used a metal water bottle to smash a car window, and was able to pull his sister and parents to safety, following which he called for help.

Kavya Bhaskar Hegde, from Chikkamagaluru, was on her way home when she found an elderly woman lying on a railway track, and rushed in to save her after she saw a train approaching.

The five children were also presented a cash prize of Rs 10,000.

The ceremony included awards distributed to four organisations and four individuals for their services rendered in the field of children’s welfare.

All should join hands with govt for conservation: Forester in Karnataka

As there is a lot of pressure on forests due to linear projects, the forest department alone cannot safeguard them and everybody should join hands for conservation and protection, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Kumar Pushkar said.

During the distribution of the Cricketers for Wildlife Conservation’s Wildlife Service Award 2022, organised by Karnataka Forest Department, he said NGOs, conservationists and celebrities should engage with the government in conservation and protection.

Forest watcher from BRT Tiger Reserve, Fairoz, along with wildlife conservationists — Sunitha Dhairyam (Mariamma Trust, Bandipur Tiger Reserve), Akhilesh Chipli (Shivammoga) and Colonel C M Muthanna (Kodagu) — were felicitated by former Indian cricketer and National Cricket Academy director VVS Laxman in the city on Saturday.

The awardees are chosen by a team of panellists from the forest department, including conservationists, based on their work. Laxman expressed concern about climate change and asserted the need to protect forests to mitigate the effects.

There are challenges, which need to be overcome for better results, he added using the platform to encourage youth in sports, but also stressed on the need for quality education.

KARNATAKA: ARTS & CULTURE / ICON: Kannada Actor Puneeth Rajkumar Conferred ‘Karnataka Ratna Award’ Posthumously at the 67th Kannada Rajyotsava

South actors Rajinikanth and Jr NTR joined Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai at an event here on Tuesday to honour late Kannada actor Puneeth Rajkumar with Karnataka Ratna award posthumously.

The event was held on the 67th Kannada Rajyotsava.

Chief Minister Bommai shared a video of the ceremony in which is seen sharing the stage with Rajinikanth and Jr NTR.

The award ceremony took place on the steps of Vidhana Souda.

Despite heavy rainfall, a large number of people attended the award ceremony.

Rajinikanth donned a simple white kurta pyjama, whereas Jr NTR opted for a white shirt and black jeans.

The Chief Minister had announced earlier that the state government has decided to present the ‘Karnataka Ratna’ award to Dr Puneeth Rajkumar on November 1.

“A committee would be formed to make preparations for the award presentation ceremony. Members of Dr Rajkumar’s family would also be included as members of the committee. We all together will present the award posthumously to Puneeth in a highly dignified manner,” Bommai had told the media.

The Chief Minister had also paid rich tributes to Puneeth Rajkumar on his first death anniversary. “His death has left a deep void in Kannada cinema. A multi faceted personality, he was a wonderful actor, playback singer, television presenter & producer. In our hearts forever Appu!” he said in a tweet.

The prestigious award has been conferred only nine times earlier.

The Karnataka Ratna was last awarded to Dr Virendra Heggade in 2009 for his social service. Apart from him, Puneeth’s father Dr Rajkumar was among the first recipients of the state’s highest civilian award in 1992 for his work in the entertainment industry.

Puneeth Rajkumar passed away last year on October 29 following a cardiac arrest at the age of 46. Colloquially known as Appu, he was an actor, playback singer, television presenter and producer.

KARNATAKA: STATE FORMATION DAY: 01st November 2022 – 67th Karnataka Rajyotsava Day. History. Celebrations.

This year marks the 67th Karnataka Rajyotsava Day. The celebrations will honour 67 personalities form various fields and their contribution to the state. The ‘Karnataka Ratna’ award will be presented posthumously to actor Dr. Puneeth Rajkumar , who passed away last year.

Today, 1 November, is commemorated as Kannada Rajyotsava Day in Karnataka. Also known as Karnataka Rajyotsava Day, Karnataka Formation Day or Karnataka Divas, it marks the establishment of the state of Karnataka.

On this very day in 1956, the Kannada-speaking regions of Southern India were merged into a separate state. Karnataka Rajyotsava Day is celebrated with great zeal in the state. Several functions and ceremonies are organised to mark the foundation day of Karnataka. This Karnataka Rajyotsava Day, let’s take a look at how the state of Karnataka came into existence, the celebrations this year and some wishes you can send to your loved ones on Karnataka Formation Day:

History:
At the time of India’s independence, the southern part of the country was broadly administered by the Nizam of Hyderabad, the state of Mysuru and the Madras and Bombay Presidencies. After independence, the region was reorganised to facilitate administration. In 1956, under the State Reorganisation Act, the Kannada-speaking regions were grouped into a separate state- Mysuru. Andhra Pradesh also came into existence on this day. Karnataka Rajyotsava Day has been celebrated every year since then to celebrate the state’s formation. Later, in 1973, the name of the state was changed from Mysuru to Karnataka.

INTERNATIONAL: PARTICIPATION IN WW1: October 29th, 1918 – On ‘Sharqat Day’, Homage paid to the ‘114th Marathas’ Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre (MLIRC)Belagavi, for their Supreme Sacrifice in World War I

The Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre (MLIRC) in Belagavi district of Karnataka observed the 114th ‘Sharqat Day’ to pay homage to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives on this day in 1918 during the First World War in erstwhile Mesopotamia, now in present day Iraq.

Officers paid their homage by laying wreaths at the Sharqat War Memorial to the brave hearts of the infantry regiment who made the supreme sacrifice.

“The 114 Marathas wrote an immortal saga with their blood, courage and endurance. In recognition of their gallant act and valour, the Battalion was awarded the Battle Honour ‘Sharqat’,” a defence public relation officer said in a statement.

In this particular action, the unit won two Distinguished Service Orders, four Military Cross, six Indian Order of Merit, 16 Indian Distinguished Service Medals and eight Mention in Dispatches, with a combined total of 36 gallantry awards which till today have not been surpassed by any unit of the Indian Army in a single operation, the statement said. KARNATAKA: ARTS & CULTURE: ‘Koti Kantha Gayana’ – 1.5 Crore People Sing 6 Classic Kannada Songs & State Anthem in One Voice at 11 am(IST) Friday 28th October

From the grand steps of Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru and the high seas off Malpe coast in Udupi, Kannada pride reverberated across the world with about 1.5 crore people singing six classic Kannada songs, including the state anthem at the same time at 11 am (IST).

As part of the ‘Koti Kantha Gayana’ programme on Friday — a precursor to the Rajyotsava celebrations on November 1 — citizens, government officials, politicians, students and eminent people gathered at various places within and outside the country to sing together in Kannada. Minister for Kannada and Culture V Sunil Kumar said programmes were held at 10,000 locations in 50 countries, including 27 states in India.

Adorned in state flag colours – yellow and red – they sang songs including ‘Udayavagali Namma Cheluva Kannada Naadu’, ‘Baarisu Kannada Dindimava’, ‘Hachevu Kannadada Deepa’ and ‘Vishwa Vinuthana Vidya Chetana’, besides the state anthem.

At many places, family members of government staffers were also invited to join the event, with some taking an oath that they will use Kannada in their office work and will introduce the language to those who are not familiar with it.

In some places, songs were being played in the background. Special teams of musicians were called at the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) head office in Bengaluru. Over 1,000 officers and staffers attended the programme. Similarly, over 2,000 people gathered at the Bengaluru city police commissioner’s office on Mahaveer Jain Road (Infantry Road). Crowds gathered at the KSRTC office and Bengaluru University Jnanabharathi campus as well. Over 3,000 staffers of Bannerghatta Biological Park and students from various government schools participated in an event held at the zoo premises at 11 am.

In Udupi, over 100 fishing boats sailed far out into the sea off the Malpe coast as they took part in the event with enthusiasm. In Dakshina Kannada, an event was held at Panambur Beach as people sang the Kannada songs on cruise and fishing boats. These songs were sung in villages and towns across the state. Even those travelling on flights took part in the programme.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that through the ‘Koti Kanta Gayana’, great respect was shown to Goddess Bhuvaneshwari, and the state government is determined to build a bright future for Karnataka and Kannada.

Speaking to reporters after launching the event at Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru, Bommai termed it a golden day for the state of Karnataka. He said this could be a world record.

KARNATAKA: ARTS & CRAFTS: Artiste, TEDx speaker Ranjita Yellur to get Srushti Kalabhushan’ Award 2022

Srushti Kalabhushan’ award, instituted by Bengaluru based Srushtikala Vidyalaya, will be awarded to talented artist Ranjita Yellur during the `Srushti Sambhrama-21′ being planned at Patthi hall in N R colony in Bengaluru on October 30.

The previous recipients of Srushti Kalabhushan award include well known writer Doddarange Gowda, Patla Satish Shetty, among others, Srushtikala Vidyalaya President Chayapathi Kanchibail. Ranjita a topper in academics is a Carnatic classical vocalist, throwball champion, empaneled as speaker by TEDx and a Yakshagana artist.

Ranjitha also has won state level debate competitions and management fests. Ranjita has staged hundreds of Yakshagana programmes under Kadri Balayaksha Koota and Yaksha Koota. Her roles as Babruvahana, Sudarshana, Bhargava, Narakasura, Bramarakunthale, among others have drawn wide appreciation even from critics also.

Ranjitha who learnt Yakshagana from her father Ramachandra Bhat Yellur when she was just a three year-old child also had participated in the documentation of Yakshagana at Rhastrapathi Bhavan.

KARNATAKA: Both ‘Cubbon Park Walkers Association & Cubbon Park Walkers Forum’ Host the ‘ 2nd International Women Achievers Awards 2022’ at Ravindra Kala Kshethra

This week brought to this city its infamous dampness. Cloudy skies, busy roads and cold weather. However, unlike most days during the wet season, the weekend carried a certain warmth to Bengaluru’s air as the Cubbon Park Walkers Association and Cubbon Park Walkers Forum hosted the International Women Achievers Awards 2022 on Sunday at Ravindra Kala Kshethra.

The Young Star Award 2022 took place as well.

The mission behind this event was to empower, inspire and promote the works of women achievers and young talents, who have left a positive impact to the society and excelled in their fields of interest.

Some of the awardees from this year include Dr Pratima Murthy, director of the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Alyia Krumbiegel, famed landscaper and social worker, esteemed classical singer Archana Udupa, who also performed at the function, and beloved actor Bhavana Ramanna, among others.

Ashwath Narayan, Minister for Higher Education; IT & BT, Science & Technology, and Mysuru maharaja Yaddu veer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar were the chief guests of the event.

Starting in 2019, this is the second time this award show is being organised in South India. Besides our country, Australia and the United Kingdom have also taken part in the event.

“We started this to recognise women achievers and young talents, who have done substantially good work for our society’s wellbeing. There are so many examples of award shows where money is the key factor. People from the upper echelons of the social hierarchy just give money and take awards. That’s not good at all. Many deserving people don’t get recognised due to not being very affluent.

We wanted to create an award show that is purely for celebrating good work done by folks who gave their all for the rest of us,” says Dr Umesh Kumar, president of Cubbon Park Walkers Association and Cubbon Park Walkers Forum, who adds that the event, including the lunch, was free for all attendees.

The event, which was six months in the making, features multiple attractions, which include a Kuchupudi dance performance and a musical programme by film music director Srisuresh.

“In the maiden year of this event, in 2019, more than 21 countries participated. We had about 800 attendees then, but this year our footfall has increased to more than twofold with almost 2000 people attending the award function. We plan on doing this every year as the Bengaluru crowd has been very supportive of our initiative,” concludes Dr Kumar.
