NATIONAL: BEAUTY : Ishika Shetty Wins Miss Teen Global World India Oceana 2024 Crown

Mangaluru girl Ishika Shetty was crowned as Miss Teen Global World India Oceana – 2024 at Mr and Miss and Miss Teen Global World beauty pageant in New Delhi on February 27, organized by Global India Entertainment Production and Ali Sharma.

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty and model Jathin Kirbath were the jury members for the final round and 65 contestants from all over the country took part in the beauty pageant.

Ishika Shetty hails from Kavoor. She is the daughter of Sharath Kumar Shetty and Shwetha Sharath Kumar Shetty. Presently, she is pursuing her degree at St Aloysius College.

In the year 2022, Ishika bagged Miss Teen Mangaluru and Miss Teen Karnataka in 2023 in Bengaluru. Since childhood, she has been inclined towards acting, dancing and modeling.

NATIONAL: KARNATAKA: SPORTS – FIRST: Karnataka govt launches ‘India’s First ever International Stand up-Paddling (SUP) event’, Mar 08-10 Mangaluru

The Government of Karnataka officially launched India’s first-ever International Stand-Up Paddling event here. 

The announcement was made in the presence of UT Khader, Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, Dinesh Gundu Rao, Minister of Health and District In-Charge Minister of Dakshina Kannada, Govt of Karnataka, and Dhananjaya Shetty, Chairman, Surfing Swami Foundation.

Additionally, the occasion featured the unveiling of the India Paddle Festival logo.

The three-day SUP championship is scheduled to take place at Sasihithlu Beach from March 8-10, 2024, preceding the launch of the 2024 APP World Tour.

Speaking on the occasion, UT Khader said, “We need more of these events in Dakshina Kannada to highlight the beauty of our coastline, culture and cuisine. We are excited to host the inaugural India Paddle Festival in Mangaluru.”

Meanwhile, Dhananjaya Shetty said, “On behalf of the surfing community, I would like to express my gratitude towards the Government of Karnataka for stepping up and supporting us to host the country’s first-ever International Stand-Up Paddling event. We take pride and immense pleasure in hosting the event on such a grand scale, and we will leave no stone unturned to make this event a grand success.”

Udupi’s Sini Shetty to represent India in 71st Miss World beauty pageant

Sini Shetty, a 21-year-old native of Udupi, Karnataka, has been selected to represent India in the upcoming 71st edition of the Miss World beauty pageant contest.

This announcement comes after Shetty was crowned ‘Miss India’ at the ‘Femina Miss India World-2022’ event held in Mumbai. Shetty, who holds a Masters in Accounting and Finance, is also proficient in Bharatanatyam.

The Miss World beauty pageant contest, which is returning to India after a hiatus of three decades, is set to take place at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai on March 9 marking a significant milestone as Bengaluru had hosted the event 28 years ago for the first time.

The India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) will host the ‘opening ceremony and India welcome the world Gala’ in New Delhi. Renowned fashion designer Archana Kochhar has been appointed as the official fashion designer for the 71st Miss World competition.

In her remarks, Sini Shetty expressed her joy at being part of this prestigious event, highlighting India’s rich history in the Miss World beauty pageant. She mentioned that India has produced six Miss World winners in the past, including Aishwarya Rai (1994), Rita Faria (1966), Diana Hayden (1997), Yukta Mukhi (1999), Priyanka Chopra (2000), and Manushi Chillar (2017).

NATIONAL : KARNATAKA: Bengaluru Kendriya Vidyala Student R. Bhavana presents Science Project at PM’s Pariksha pe Charcha

R. Bhavana represented the KVS Bengaluru region at the programme in Delhi.

R. Bhavana, a class 9 student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, DRDO, Bengaluru, presented her science project at the Pariksha Pe Charcha programme held on January 29 in Bharath Mandapam, Pragathi Maidan, New Delhi. As part of the programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with students appearing for board exams this year.

R. Bhavana represented the KVS Bengaluru region at the programme in Delhi. Her project on a health monitoring system has earned recognition for its innovative approach, according to Kendriya Vidyalaya, DRDO, Bengaluru.

NATIONAL: KARNATAKA: Two students from Kundapur, Sullia selected to participate in Pariksha Pe Charcha with PM Modi

Two students from Kundapur and Sullia have been selected to participate in the Pariksha Pe Charcha programme with Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, which will be held on Monday, January 29, in New Delhi.

Gargi Devi, a ninth-grade student at HMM English Medium Primary and V K R Acharya High School, promoted by Kundapur Education Society, and Achal Bilinele, a first PU science student at Mudipu Jawahara Navodaya Vidyalaya, are the participants in this event.

This year, 2.05 crore students, 14.93 lakh teachers, and 5.69 lakh parents from all over the country will take part in the Pariksha Pe Charcha programme online.

Two individuals who won in the national-level art festival have the opportunity to participate in the Republic Day parade and have a discussion in person with PM Modi during Pariksha Pe Charcha.

Gargi Devi secured the first place in the state-level art festival of 2023-24 and won a bronze medal in the classical dance competition of the national-level art festival.

Achal Bilinele has been selected to demonstrate a science model that explains the functioning of Chandrayana-3 in a simple manner understandable by commoners.

Achal is representing the Hyderabad zone of Navodaya Vidyalaya. Out of the 600 Jawahara Navodaya Vidyalayas in the country, eight have the opportunity to participate in the programme. Achal is the son of lecturer Chandrashekhara Bilinele and Dr Anuradha Kurunji.

Achal’s mother, Dr Anuradha, met the then PM Atal Bihari Vajapayee exactly 25 years ago on January 29, 1999. Achal will be meeting PM Modi on the same date and month after 25 years.

Gargi is the daughter of Ashok Suvarna and Natya Vidushi Pravita Ashok, a couple from Devalkunda. She is the second student from Kundapur to be selected to participate in the Pariksha Pe Charcha programme. In March 2021, Anusha, a student of Albady-Ardy Charamakki Narayana Shetty Memorial High School, participated in the same programme.

 American Doctors who are of Indian origin were felicitated by NRI Forum Karnataka on Saturday January 6 at Rajathaadri, Manipal.

Dr Sampath Shivangi, founding member Association of Physicians of India, Dr Dayanand Nayak, Dr Geetha Nayak, cancer specialist, Dr Anupama Bhat, Dr Ramesh Gowda, Dr Udaya Shivangi, convener, Subramanya Bhat, Dr Rajeshwari, Dr Shantha Moorthi, Dr Sujatha Moorthi, Dr Ramdas were felicitated on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Vidyakumari, deputy commissioner of Udupi district, said, “Today we are in the times of globalisation. America once which was very distant is now very near because of globalisation. Non-Resident Indian Forum, Karnataka, has helped Indian-origin doctors in America. It has quickly responded and helped doctors during Ukraine war and other crisis. When I was the zilla panchayat CEO in Tumakuru, when there was need for oxygen cylinders, foreign ambassadors have supplied in more quantity. They have helped a lot during the COVID pandemic.”

Dr Sampath Shivangi, thanking the gathered said, “Earlier, we were called Asian Americans and now we are called Indian Americans. This is one of the achievements we have made. We always want to help our motherland.”

Dr Dayanand Nayak said, “No other Indians have done the work Dr Arathi Krishna, the deputy chairman of the NRI Forum Karnataka has done. We are not only immigrants but also sub-Indians. No doctors from other countries receive respect as Indian doctors get in America. Dr Sampath, Dr Uday and Dr Subramanyam Bhat have contributed a lot.”

The event began with a prayer by Sachin. Dignitaries and all the doctors lighted the lamp.

Dr Arathi Krishna welcomed the gathering. Lakshmamma, working secretary of NRI Forum Karnataka proposed the vote of thanks. M A Gafoor, senior Udupi Congress leader, presided over the event.

KARNATAKA: Bengaluru Press Club Confers ‘Person Of The Year’ Award To DK Shivakumar (DKS)

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar (DKS) was conferred with ‘Person of the Year’ award by the Press Club of Bengaluru at a programme organised here recently. Also, former Minister Shyamanur Shivashankarappa, Labour Minister Santosh Lad and the CM’s Political Secretary K. Govindaraju were felicitated.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the Constitution is our dharma and following ‘Rajakiya Dharma’ is the best honour that we can give to our Constitution.

Pointing out that the Constitution was implemented after a prolonged and purposeful debate, he said as such, it is the responsibility of every political party to honour and follow the Constitution.

Observing that reporting facts should be the ‘Patrika Dharma’ of newspapers, the CM said expressed disappointment that of late the Press is giving undue coverage to non-issues and issues of little importance or significance. He called upon the journalists to caution the Government whenever it goes on the wrong path.

Siddaramaiah also released the Press Club’s 2024 Diary at the event. Former Supreme Court Judge Shivaraj Patil and others were present.

INTERNATIONAL: KARNATAKA: WORLD KANNADA CONFERENCE: 17th World Kannada Cultural Conference to be held in Dammam on Jan 18-19, 2024

Non-resident Kannadigas committee, Saudi Arabia and Hridayavahini Karnataka Mangaluru will be holding 17th two-day long Vishwa Kannada Samskrithi Sammelana at the Safwa auditorium, Dammam on January 18-19, 2024.

There will be poetics session, comedy session, media session and nonresident Kannadigas session during the programme. Bharatanatya, Janapada dances, dance skits, Yakshagana, Dollu dances and Daf arts will be displayed during the event.

An exhibition of goods will be held outside the auditorium on those days. There are more than 40,000 Kannadigas in Saudi Arabia. There will be publicity of the programme so that a large number of Kannadigas may attend the event. Kannadigas in Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Qatar, Sharjah and Dubai will be invited for the event.

Chief minister Siddaramaiah will be invited to inaugurate the event. Vidhan Sabha speaker U T Khader, minister of the department of Kannada and culture Shivaraj Tangadagi, minister of agriculture Cheluvarayaswamy, minister of health and Dakshina Kannada district in charge minister Dinesh Gundurao, minister of higher education, Madhu Bangarappa, minister of civic administration and Haj, Rahim Khan, deputy chairman of the NRI Forum of Karnataka Dr Arati Krishna, Kannada Development Authority former president Prof S G Siddaramaiah have been invited.

The concluding programme will be held during the evening on January 19. A delegation of more than 100 members from Karnataka and India and office bearers of various Kannada organizations across the country will take part in the conference.

NATIONAL: KARNATAKA: SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY: ROBOTICS: India’s 01st Edition of ROSCon 2023 energises Robotics Community in country

The event featured seven innovative robotic startup showcases, 14 talks on ROS, and four-panel discussions.

India’s first edition of ROSCon 2023 — a platform that brought together industry experts, researchers and enthusiasts from the Robotics and ROS (Robot Operating System) community — was held in Bengaluru last week. The event witnessed a turnout of 700 participants from within and outside the country.

ARTPARK-IISc, in collaboration with Acceleration Robotics and Rigbetel Labs hosted the first edition of ROSCon India at the JN Tata Auditorium, Indian Institute of Science (IISc). The two-day event held on December 14 and 15 offered a historic platform for ROS developers, encompassing enthusiasts at every level, from beginners to seasoned experts.

The event featured seven innovative robotic startup showcases, 14 talks on ROS, and four-panel discussions. The sessions delved into the evolving landscape of robotics in India, exploring challenges faced by startups in robotics, the significance of edge computing, and the intricacies of securing venture capital funding.

“It was a real eye-opener for us to see the tremendous interest in robotics in general and ROS in particular. This event is part of ARTPARK’s larger goal of catalyzing the innovation ecosystem around robotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its applications to solve problems at scale via creating and supporting startups. The event played a pivotal role in uniting and strengthening the robotics community across the country,” said Prof Bharadwaj Amrutur, Executive Director and Chief Technologist, ARTPARK-IISc.

He added that ROSCon not only marked a momentous occasion in India’s robotics journey but also set the stage for continued collaboration, innovation and advancements in the field. The event received significant support from industry leaders, with Qualcomm, Nvidia, and Analogue Devices India joining as platinum sponsors.

ARTPARK is an AI and Robotics Technology Park promoted by the IISc to foster innovations in AI and robotics by bringing together the best of the startup, industry, research and government ecosystem. It is seed-funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) and the Government of Karnataka. 

Acceleration Robotics is focused on designing customized hardware, or “brains”, that speed up a robot’s operation. The company creates custom compute architectures for high-performance robots through hardware acceleration solutions. RigBetel Labs aims to bring the nitty-gritty of cutting-edge technologies like robotics, automation, augmented reality, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, machine learning, cloud tech and mobile application to every viable sector.

NATIONAL / KARNATAKA: ELECTRONICS & AVIATION: HAL to host Avionics Expo in Delhi on December 7, 8 

The expo will unveil a comprehensive range of avionics products deployed in various aircraft platforms, including advanced flight control systems, communication systems and navigation systems.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will showcase its rich legacy in the design, development and production of a diverse range of avionics systems during Avionics Expo-2023, to be held at Dr Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi, on December 7 and 8.

The Expo will be inaugurated by Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan.

“We will demonstrate HAL’s capabilities and contributions toward self-reliance in avionics, to our stakeholders, including the Indian Armed Forces, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Civil Aviation, DRDO and other important institutions,” said CB Ananthakrishnan, CMD (Additional Charge), HAL.

The expo will unveil a comprehensive range of avionics products deployed in various aircraft platforms, including advanced flight control systems, communication systems and navigation systems. Several panel discussions will feature experts from the Armed Forces, HAL, partner organisations, and academia, providing a holistic view of the sector. 

“The event will serve as a hub for professionals, industry leaders and stakeholders from the aviation sector. They will have ample networking opportunities to establish meaningful connections, foster collaborations and explore potential business partnerships. It is a testament to HAL’s commitment to advancing aerospace technology in India,” said DK Sunil, Director (Engineering and R&D).

A section for live demonstrations will allow visitors to witness the performance and reliability of HAL’s avionics solutions in realtime scenarios. Engineering students from in and around Delhi have also been invited to gain the experience. HAL’s Avionics Expo aims to achieve self-reliance in avionics and is a testament to its commitment to advancing aerospace technology in India.
