ARTS & CULTURE : The 2nd International Belagavi Poetry Festival to go Online.

Last date May 22nd, 2022

The second edition of the International Belagavi Poetry Festival will be held online this year. Rostrum Diaries by GubbiBoo, a platform for arts and poetry, has invited writers to send their entries to the festival.

Poetry in English, Hindi, Kannada, and Marathi can be submitted. There is no age limit. The top 200 poems will be published free of cost in the BPF booklet.

Every performer will get the e-copy of the participation certificate and the same shall be emailed after the valedictory function.

WORLD RECORDS: Tallest Statue of Panchamukhi Anjaneya Swamy in Tumakuru District

Chief  Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday said that there will be good times ahead for Karnataka as he unveiled the 161-ft tall Panchamukhi Anjaneya Swamy statue, touted to be the world’s tallest, installed by Basaveshwara Mutt at Bidanagere in Kunigal taluk of Tumakuru district.

“Panchamukhi  Anjaneya is a special form of Hanuman, which is mentioned in the Ramayana.  

Hanuman took this form for the welfare of the world. It is the divine wish of Hanuman to have his 161-ft tall statue installed in Karnataka.  

The sculptors have done a wonderful job,” Bommai added.

GRAMMY AWARDS: Music Composer Ricky Kej Wins a Second Grammy Award with his Album ‘Divine Tides’

The US-born musician shared the award with Stewart Copeland, the drummer of the iconic British rock band The Police, who collaborated with Kej on the album.

 Music composer Ricky Kej, based out of Bengaluru, has won his second Grammy in the best new album category for ‘Divine Tides’.

“So grateful to have won the Grammy Award for our album ‘Divine Tides’. Absolutely love this living-legend standing next to me – Stewart Copeland. Love all of you too!

This is my 2nd Grammy Award and Stewart’s 6th,” he wrote alongside a picture with Copeland.

In 2015, Kej took home a Grammy in the best new age album category for ‘Winds of Samsara’.

12 KV Students from Karnataka for Pariksha Pe Charcha with PM Narendra Modi

Twelve students of classes 9 to 12 from Kendriya Vidyalayas (KV) in Karnataka are among the students selected for interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Pariksha Pe Charcha at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi, on April 1.

An online creative writing competition was held between December 2021 and January 2022 to select the students.

Three students selected from Bengaluru Urban educational district are class 10 student Aayushi Jha from KV 1, Jalahalli West; class 11 student Ayush Mani Tripathi from KV ASC (S) Centre Bengaluru; both participated in the ‘Clean India Green India’ competition; and class 12 student Shiwangi Mishra from KV ASC Centre, who participated in the ‘Environmental Conservation and Climate Change Resilience’ competition.

Two students selected from Belagavi district are class 10 student Shreyas Marganakop from KV No. 3 and class 11 student Janhavi Dwibedi from KV No. 1, Air Force Station, Sambra, who had participated in ‘Environmental Conservation and Climate Change Resilience’ competition.

Two students selected from Bengaluru Rural district are class 10 student Rishi Kumar Polepally from KV AFS Yelahanka, who participated in ‘Digital Collaboration in Classroom’ competition; and class 10 student Janhavi Dev from KV No. 1 Jalahalli West, who participated in ‘Exam Stress Management Strategies During COVID-19’.

The other students are class 10 student G.U. Akshaya from KV Shivamogga; class 10 student Anusha M.C. from KV Tumakuru; and class 9 student Shreya N. from KV Chamarajanagar, who all participated in ‘Digital Collaboration in Classroom’ competition; class 9 student S. Padmapriya from KV Kodagu, who participated in ‘Exam Stress Management Strategies During COVID-19’; and class 12 student M. Sahana from KV Donimalai, Ballari, who participated in ‘Clean India Green India’ competition.

KSR Bengaluru to become First Railway Station in the State to Sell Famed GI tagged Channapatna Toys

KSR Bengaluru is all set to become the first railway station in the state to market the famed Channapatna toys. A stall to sell them will be rolled out from Friday (March 25) on a pilot basis and it will be trialed for a fortnight.

Channapatna toys are special wooden toys and dolls manufactured in Channapatna town in Ramanagara district of Karnataka and have the Geographical Indicator (GI) tag.

The Vishwa Konkani Awards 2021 were conferred on five eminent achievers of various fields in a grand ceremony held at the World Konkani Centre, Shaktinagar here on Sunday, March 20.

Massam, a collection of Konkani short stories by Antony Barkur (Antony Prakash D’Souza) was conferred with the Best Konkani Book of the Year (Prose) under Smt Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Sahitya Puraskar 2021.

Indradhonu Udeum, a collection of Konkani poems by Uday Narasimha Mhambro, reveived the Best Konkani Book of the Year (Poetry) under Smt. Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Kavita Kruti Puraskar 2021.

Suresh Jaywant Borkar bagged the Smt Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Jeevan Siddhi Samman 2021 for his lifetime contribution to Konkani Language pedagogy, grammar and lexicography.

Corrine A Rasquinha, the founder president of White Doves Psychiatric Nursing and Destitute Home, Mangaluru and Dr Padmanabha Kamath, founder, CAD Foundation were bestowed with the Basti Vaman Shenoy Vishwa Konkani Seva Puraskar 2021.
